  • Q. Do you need a boat licence to hire and drive?
    Answer :

    No, you do not require to have a boat licence. Our electric boats are very easy and safe to drive.

  • Q. Can I bring a BBQ onboard?
    Answer :

    Unfortunately we do not allow any form of BBQ or cooking device onboard our boats. If you are keen to have a BBQ there are spots along the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers that have BBQ facilities onshore.

  • Q. Are kids allowed onboard?
    Answer :

    Yes kids are allowed onboard, when booking ensure to let us know the age of children and size so we can ensure that correct lifejackets are onboard to suit.

  • Q. I have made a booking for self-drive hire, what happens next?
    Answer :

    You will be sent a confirmation email confirming the booking and attached will be our instructions with information regarding the hire.

  • Q. What happens if I return the boat early?
    Answer :

    Unfortunately we cannot refund the hire fee if you decide to return the boat back earlier.

  • Q. Is the online booking form secure?
    Answer :

    Ensuring the security and protection of your personal information is important to us.

    We will endeavour to take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information you may transmit to us or from our online products and services, including credit card information. We will also make our best efforts to ensure its security on our systems.

    In addition, our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us.

    All transactions are secured by 128 bit SSL encryption. SSL technology encodes information as it is being sent over the Internet, helping to ensure that the information transmitted remains confidential.

    Our servers are deployed to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant provider and provides a certified infrastructure for storing, processing, and transmitting credit card information.

  • Q. What boats do you have for hire?
    Answer :

  • Q. How are the boats powered?
    Answer :

    Our boats are electric powered and have 16 batteries to provide the power for cruising continuously for 10hrs without recharging.

  • Q. Where can I go?
    Answer :

    You can cruise anywhere from just West of Bolte Bridge in Docklands to Walmer Street in Richmond so approximately 10 Nautical miles of water way to enjoy. It will take approximately 2 hrs to cruise from New Quay Marina to Walmer Street Landing.

  • Q. Do I need to book?
    Answer :

    Yes, our boats are available by booking only.  We do not accept walk-ups.  Booking is easy online or contact us to arrange your booking.

  • Q. How do I book?
    Answer :

    Booking can be done online via our secure online booking page, alternatively you can contact us to arrange your booking.

  • Q. Do I have to pay a bond when I hire?
    Answer :

    Yes, a $500 bond is taken as a pre-authorization on the credit card that you book with.  The credit card is not charged.  When the boat is returned in the same condition as you received then the pre-authorization is ceased.

  • Q. What is the age limit to hire a boat?
    Answer :

    You must be 21 or older and provide either a copy of your vehicle drivers license or passport.

  • Q. I want to hire a boat but not confident to drive myself, what do I do?
    Answer :

    No problems at all, we offer private Skippers also, simply when booking select the option for a private Skipper.  If selecting a private Skipper we recommend a maximum of 8 passengers plus the Skipper.

  • Q. How fast do the boats go?
    Answer :

    Our boats maximum speed is 5 Knts – which is the maximum speed limit allowed on the Yarra River.

  • Q. How many passengers can each boat take?
    Answer :

    Our current boats can take a maximum of 10 or 12 passengers when self-drive hire, this includes the driver.  If a Skippered cruise we recommend a maximum of 10 passengers plus the Skipper.

  • Q. What if I return the boat late?
    Answer :

    To ensure others can enjoy our boats also, if you return late then you will be charged $50 per 15 minutes late. Please refer to put Terms and Conditions for further information.

  • Q. Can I bring food and drinks onboard?
    Answer :

    You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages to enjoy onboard.  We also offer food and beverage packages but booking for this is required 24hrs in advance.

  • Q. Is alcohol allowed to be consumed onboard?
    Answer :

    Yes, alcohol is allowed to be consumed onboard, the driver is required to remain with a blood alcohol level of .05, Water Police are constantly patrolling the waterways.  If you would like to have a few drinks then book a Skipper through us.

  • Q. What time should I arrive before my booking?
    Answer :

    We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your hire commencement to enable us to complete the vessel induction and safety briefing and also complete the hire agreement. For further information view our Information sheet here.

  • Q. Do I not need a boat license?
    Answer :

    No, a boat license is not required as our boats are under 10hp.  We will instruct you on how to drive and the rules before you depart.

  • Q. Can I go fishing and swimming?
    Answer :

    No, we do not allow fishing or swimming to be conducted from our hire boats.

  • Q. Do I have to wear a lifejacket?
    Answer :

    No, as our boats are longer than 4.8m, lifejackets are not required to be worn at all times.  Each vessel has approved lifejackets in case of emergency stored underneath seating.  Any children onboard under 10 years of age are required to wear a lifejacket.  When booking please inform us how many child lifejackets you require.   These are supplied free of charge.


  • Q. How do I pay?
    Answer :

    Payment can only be made via credit card, we do not accept cash or cheques.

  • Q. Do you have a cancellation policy?
    Answer :

    Yes, our cancellation policy allows for a booking to be changed up-to 3 days prior to booking date and can be rebooked within a 6 month period.  If a booking is cancelled within 3 days prior to booking, the cancellation will forfeit the booking fee.   • Q. Is smoking allowed onboard?
    Answer :

    No smoking is not allowed onboard our boats.

  • Q. Where are you located?
    Answer :

    Boarding is completed at New Quay Promenade Docklands, at the public berth at 45 New Quay Promenade Docklands. For more information view our location page.
