Position: Captain – Master <24m with MED 3 (Birrarung)

Melbourne Boat Hire seeks an experienced and professional Captain holding a Master <24m and MED 3 qualification to operate our flagship luxury charter vessel, Birrarung, on the iconic Yarra River.
This is a customer-facing role, ideal for a reliable, safety-focused marine professional with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a five-star guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate the luxury charter vessel Birrarung for private cruises, functions, and corporate events
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests and crew onboard throughout each charter
- Prepare the vessel pre-charter, including safety checks, general presentation, and setup
- Assist with ongoing cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep the vessel in pristine condition
- Confirm and load all catering and beverage requirements before departure
- Maintain the vessel logbook for each charter, ensuring accurate recording of operational details
- Ensure all safety equipment is present, functional, and compliant at all times
- Conduct and document monthly emergency drills by marine safety regulations
- Liaise with crew and support staff to deliver an exceptional onboard experience for guests
Requirements:
- Master <24m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency
- Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 (MED 3) qualification
- Proven experience operating commercial vessels, preferably in a passenger or charter setting
- Strong understanding of maritime safety protocols and regulatory compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to guest service and vessel presentation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
