Melbourne Boat Hire is Melbourne’s leading provider of luxury, eco-friendly cruising experiences on the Yarra River. Our premium vessels, Birrarung and Lady M, host a variety of private charters, including celebrations, corporate events, and romantic cruises. We seek enthusiastic, customer-focused individuals to join our on-water crew as Deckhand / Waiter / Waitress.
Role Summary
As a Deckhand / Waiter / Waitress, you will be key in delivering exceptional onboard experiences for our guests. You will support the Captain with vessel operations, guest safety, and emergency procedures, while also providing high-level hospitality service — including food and beverage service, boarding assistance, and post-cruise clean-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Captain during vessel berthing, mooring, and departure
- Tie up and release mooring lines safely and efficiently
- Welcome and assist guests as they board and disembark
- Serve food and beverages professionally throughout the charter
- Engage with guests and ensure they are comfortable and enjoying the cruise
- Prepare the vessel before charter with cleanliness, stock, and presentation checks
- Monitor guest safety and behaviour throughout the cruise
- Assist the Captain in the event of an emergency
- Post-charter cleaning and reset of the vessel for the next booking
Requirements
- Current RSA Certificate (Responsible Service of Alcohol – mandatory)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable with basic manual handling (lines, light lifting, setting up tables, etc.)
- Well-groomed, friendly, and professional presentation
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and follow directions quickly
- Available to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays as required
- Experience in hospitality, boating, or the tourism industry (preferred but not essential)
- First Aid Certificate (desirable but not required)
