Boat Hire Assistant

About the Role:

Melbourne Boat Hire is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible Boat Hire Assistant to join our growing team. This hands-on role is essential in ensuring each of our vessels is prepared, presented, and operated to the highest standard, delivering exceptional service to our customers on the Yarra River.

You will be key in preparing boats for hire, managing safety procedures, and providing an outstanding customer experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors around boats and people, and is looking to start or grow their maritime or tourism industry career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare boats before and after each hire, including thorough cleaning and resetting
  • Empty waste tanks and refill freshwater tanks as required
  • Check and load catering orders on board per booking requirements
  • Ensure all safety equipment is present, operational, and life jackets (including correct sizes for children) are onboard
  • Conduct pre-hire safety briefings with hirers, ensuring safe operation and hire agreements are completed and signed
  • Use tracking systems to monitor the fleet and ensure all vessels are operated safely and return on time
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks, report faults or damage
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the dock area and onboard vessels
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels in the office (e.g., catering supplies, safety equipment, cleaning products)
  • Support team members with charter vessel operations as needed

About You:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Positive and proactive attitude with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working around boats and on the water
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Physically fit and reliable
  • Punctual and flexible with weekend availability (essential)
  • Previous experience in hospitality, marine or tourism industries is an advantage
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • General boat handling knowledge or a Coxswain ticket is desirable, but not essential
